C. Grading of Medals and Other Items
Orders, Decorations and Medals were intended to be worn and used. In
this regard, most medals show signs of wear to one degree or another. A medal
that exhibits signs of wear does not detract materially from the historical
significance of the item
In our experience the majority of British medals are
usually found in VF condition
We pride ourselves in the ability to grade medals honestly
and conservatively, using the below standard;
- EF (Extra Fine): The
finest condition a medal can generally be expected to be found in
- GVF (Good Very Fine):
With very few blemishes or marks, and or deeply toned
- VF (Very Fine): With
surface wear & minor contact marks to the obverse/reverse, and or rim
- GF (Good Fine):
Having significant overall wear, edge knocks and or loose suspender
- F (Fine): A medal in
generally poor overall defective condition
For books, badges and ribbons we may adhere to other more
appropriate grading standards
Medal Ribbons: We endeavour to
supply medal ribbons for all of the medals that are listed.. Note however, that
ribbons will be variable in quality, size and condition. Should a medal not
have a ribbon it will be described as N/R
