21st Lancers 'Death Or Glory': Conductor Henry Thomas Jarratt had been a long serving NCO with the 21st Lancers - in India - prior to transferring to the Indian Unattached List and his latter attachment to the Indian Corps of Clerks

'Harry' Thomas Jarratt, son of Harry Jarratt was a native of the parish of St. Lukes, London, Middlesex England, where he was born on 1 August 1887. Harry was a 'Gas Fitter' by trade and had been serving as a Volunteer in the 1st Middlesex Royal Engineers Volunteers, when he enlisted in the British Army at London, England, on 1 September 1905, on which date he was posted to the 21st Lancers. He subsequently served overseas in British India, where he disembarked form the 'Dongola' on 1 October 1912 - and remained there for just over 27 years - including 2 x deployments on active service to the North West Frontier!,  He married Ethel Maria Turnet at the historic 'Afghan Memorial Church' at Colaba, Bombay, India, on 19 December 1920, at which time he was holding the rank of Staff-Sergeant while still serving with the 21st Lancers. Harry transferred to the Indian Unattached List on 1 February 1924, on which date he was posted to the Indian Army Corps of Clerks. Harry was appointed Sub-Conductor on, 1932, and to Conductor on, 1 October 1935. Conductor Jarratt took his final discharge from the British Indian Army on, 21 April 1939, by which time he had completed 33 years service with 'The Colours'. It is not known if the Jarratt's retired to the United Kingdom prior to the outbreak of the Second World War, however what is known is that the Jarratt's were living in the United Kingdom in 1947, where Harry and his family resided at, 10 Aragon Drive, Eastcote, Ruislip, Middlesex, England, and where he is recorded to have died on, 7 January 1947. He was succeeded by his widow, Ethel Maria Jarratt. to whom he bequeathed his estate.
