Special Constabulary Long Service Medal. GV 1st issue (Ernest Sprankling)

The recipient -  an elected Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects - served with the Taunton Division of the Somerset Special Constabulary

Ernest Sprankling, son of Henry Sprankling (a Gardener) and Sarah Jane Sprankling (nee Sansom) was a native of, Wilton. Somerset, England, where he was born on, 7 October 1871. At the time of the compilation of the 1891 Census for England and Wales, Ernest is recorded employed then as a 'Carpenter' and residing with his parents and older sibling brother, Robert Sprakling (an Upholsterer) at the family dwelling located at, 14 The Terrace, Trull Village, Taunton, Somerset. By the time of  1901 Census, Ernest was by then employed as an 'Architect & Art School Teacher' - and now living with his parents at, Glencoe Terrace, Trull. Taunton, Somerset. Ernest married Mabel Beatrice Pope at Bristol in 1904, the couple subsequently being blessed with a daughter, Dorothy Muriel Sprankling (b.1906) and 2 x sons; Stuart Henry Sprankling (an Architect & Major Royal Engineers b.1907) & John Richard Sprankling (b.1916). Ernest was elected Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects L.R.I.B.A. on 19 December 1910. He established a family business 'E Sprankling & Son, Architects & Surveyors', located at 25 Fore Street, Taunton, Somerset, where father and son shared offices at the family business. Ernest Sprankling is recorded to have died at Taunton, Somerset on 2 March 1960
