Attribution: We have identified the recipient as Sergeant Dennis James Waite (formerly Lill), son of Stuart Waite and Florence Elizabeth Madgwick, whose birth in Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England, was registered in the second quarter of 1924, at which time his birth was registered as Dennis James Lill - his registered death notice shows a birth date of 22 May 1924 (a research typescript summary of the recipients service with the Royal Army Pay Corps 1953-1971 gives a wrong birth date of 22 May 1922). Dennis James Waite is recorded to have died at Nottingham, England on 1987 - a legal notice published in the London Gazette refers to the deceased as a 'Retired Treasury Clerk'. Coincidentally, Sergeant Dennis James Waite, while serving as a a Sergeant in the R.A.P.C., his last recorded posting was to 'Nottingham', where he had served circa 1967-1971, and where he also married! Dennis James Waite is recorded to have had his death in Nottingham, England, registered during the second quarter of 1987
The recipient served during the Second World War, under a different Army Number, and after completion of his terms of service would have taken his discharge from the British Army sometime prior to 1948. He subsequently re-enlisted in the British Army sometime from circa 1948 - the British Army only issued '8' digit Army Numbers from circa November 1948. Pre 1948 British Army number were generally '7' digits long.
Dennis John Waite transferred to the Royal Army Pay Corps 2 February 1953 and he continued to serve with the R.A.P.C. through to taking his discharge. He was promoted 'Sergeant', 2 February 1958. He was awarded his Long Service & Good Conduct Medal, 5 March 1963. He was posted to the Regimental Pay Office in Nottingham in December 1967. Sergeant Dennis James Waite, took his final discharge from the British Army on, 8 June 1971
