John Gunnell was a native of Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, where he was born, 30 December 1916. John enlisted in the British Army, at Leicester, England, 6 January 1941, on which date he was posted to the Royal Army Pay Corps. He was promoted Staff Quartermaster Sergeant, 1 April 1952, and was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 4 March 1958. He was promoted Staff Sergeant Major, 10 May 1961, and took his final discharge from the British Army, 3 October 1963. During his more then 22 years service 'With the Colours' he had spent his entire service with the Royal Army Pay Corps. John Gunnell, is recorded to have died at, Aslockton, Nottinghamshire, England, 5 March 2001
