Michael Edward Lynam, son of William Lynam (a Pottery Worker) and Gladys Mary Lynam (nee Aldersea), was a native of Ripley, Derbyshire, England. As a youngster, Michael lived with his parents at their residence located at 52 Fletcher Street, Ripley, Derbyshire (The 1939 National Register for England & Wales refers). He enlisted in the British Army circa August 1953, and was posted to the 1st Battalion Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) prior to it embarking for active service in Kenya Colony during the 'Mau Mau Rebellion'. He is recorded to have transferred to the Royal Army Pay Corps circa 1955, and amongst his subsequent overseas postings with the R.A.P.C. included:

- 05/1956: Posted to Singapore
- 09/1956: Attached 2/Royal Welsh Fusiliers, Malaya
- 10/1962: Posted to East Africa attached to 1st Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment
- 01/1967: Posted to CPO Malta
- 08/1971: Posted to Germany attached to 24 Missile Regiment RA

Corporal Lynam was promoted Sergeant on 24 August 1964, and was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 12 January 1971. He took his final discharge from the British Army, 1 January 1972. Michael Edward Lynam is recorded to have died at Leicester, England, 31 January 2025
