George Green, son of George Green (as notified NOK, his address is shown as, Fishergate Street, St Edmonds, Norwich, Norfolk) & Elizabeth Honor Green (nee Latimer) was a native of the parish of St James, Norwich, Norfolk, England, where he was born, 6 July 1867 (1939 National Register refers). George was 18 years of age and a 'Shoemaker' by trade, when he first enlisted in the British Army, at Norwich, England on 3 October 1885. On enlistment he was posted to the Royal Regiment of Artillery. He subsequently served 2 x periods of the service, with the British Army, firstly 3 October 1885 to 15 December 1906, and secondly, as a 'Patriot' he voluntarily re-joined 'The Colours' and served with his old corps 21 October 1914 to 21 February 1919 (his papers are marked to show that he would be turning 55 years of age on 13 April 1922)

During his many long years service with the Royal Regiment of Artillery, saw active service with the Royal Field Artillery during the South African War, and in France & Flanders with the British Expeditionary Force during the Great War. His papers record his Great War service as under:

- France: 20/03/15 - 13/08/18
- Furlough: 14/08/18 - 27/08/18
- B.E.F.: 28/08/18 - 22/01/19
- Home: 23/01/19 - 21/02/19

George Green married Mary Ann Howard in Norwich on, 25 February 1890. While George was serving overseas during the Great War, his wife was residing with their children at the family residence located at, 13 Waddington Street, Norwich, Norfolk, England. Post Great-War, after retiring  in retirement form the British Army, George Green was latterly employed as a 'Salesman' with a Dairy Company. He is recorded to have died at his native Norwich, England, on 26 December 1951, at which time he was 84 years of age 

Most uncommon to find Great War campaign medal named to an 'Appointment' rather than a rank, and generally only encountered on either of the campaign stars
