With minor official corrections to regiment name only - and exactly as issued & typical for this particular medal & clasp to this regiment

The recipient was an Indian soldier of Mahrati ethnicity and the Hindu faith, holding the rank of 'Sepoy' (Private) while serving with the 6th Battalion of the Mahratta Light Infantry, an infantry regiment of the British Indian Army

The 6th Battalion, 5th Mahratta Light Infantry was a 'War Raised' battalion. It was raised at Mardan Cantonment in June 1940, and subsequently served in India, Burma, and post war, served in Netherlands East Indies and Malaya. The battalion was disbanded in June 1947

During the post-war operations in Netherlands East Indies and Indochina, only 2 x Mahratta Light Infantry battalions were present, viz 5th and 6th Battalions, which units both served in Netherlands East Indies with the 49th Indian Infantry Brigade of the 23rd Indian Division (a.k.a. The Fighting Cock). In NEI, 6/MLI served in Java Island at Batavia (now called Jakarta)
