The Korean Service Medal (KSM) was created in November 1950 by executive order of President Harry Truman. The Korean Service Medal is the primary US military award for participation in the Korean War and basic award criteria and eligibility was for United States service personnel to have served ashore on land, or above in the skies, or on the seas bordering the Korean peninsula between 27 June 1950 to 27 July 1954
