Important: Sergeant A. G. Lloyd, had joined the Royal Air Force as a boy entrant under the 'Aircraft Apprentice Scheme', and was a former 'Halton Apprentice'

The recipients service number is from the block 560001-579999 issued sequentially to entrants to te Royal Air Force who were 'Aircraft Apprentices' - the block was effecive from 1926

Halton Brats: From 1926, teenage boys joining the Royal Air Force as airrcraft apprentices, underwent a rigorous, three-year training programme at RAF Halton to become highly skilled technicians for servicing aircraft of the Royal Air Force. Apprentices, were aged between 15 and 17 years old, and were were trained in mechanical trades. Their, youth earned them the irreverent nickname, 'Halton Brats'. The programme was highly successful, with former apprectices generally considered amongst some of the best-trained technicians in the Royal Air Force. Many former 'Halton Apprentices' subsequently went on to become commissioned officers, and one, Sir Frank Whittle, had the future distinction of being credited with being the inventor of the jet engine
