Drowned on Active Service: Private John Maher, never lived to receive his Egypt Medal being recorded to have 'Drowned; in Egypt on 22 September 1882' - just 9 x days after the Battle of Tel-el-Kebir - as noted in the medal roll

The memory and sacrifice of Private John Maher, is commemorated in perpetuity on the Royal Irish Regiment regiment memorial located at Victoria Barracks (now Kickham Barracks) ,Clonmel, Co.Tipperary, Ireland, that commemorates the dead of the regiment who died in Afghanistan (1878-1880) and in Egypt (1882)

The memorial includes the names of 3 x other ranks of 2nd  Battalion Royal Irish Regiment who were 'Killed-in-Action; in Egypt 1882, and the names of 21 x Officers and Other-Ranks of the battalion who 'Died' on active service in Egypt 1882

Medal & Clasp Verification: No 2252 Private John Maher, 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Regiment is confirmed entitled to the medal and clasp, together with a dated Khedival Bronze Star 1882,  per the below referenced medal roll:
