DEATH OF NOTED YACHSTSMAN

Brother of County Clerk of Elgin and Nairn

His Many friends in the North of Scotland will learn with regret of the death, which occurred in a London hospital on Thursday morning of Mr Charles M. M. Jameson, a son of the late, Mr. James Jameson solicitor and sheriff clerk of the county of Moray, and a brother of Mr. E. D. Jameson, solicitor, Elgin, county clerk of Elgin and Nairn.

Mr Jameson, who was 59 years of age, received his early education at Elgin Academy, and thereafter proceeded to Glasgow as an apprentice engineer with the Clyde Navigation Trustees, with whom he served for a number of years.

Later he was with several engineering firms on the Clyde, and for some time was an engineer in the G.S.N.R. Company's works at Kittybrewster.

He then received an appointment on a tea estate in India, where he remained for a considerable period, holding a number of responsible positions as manager of several of the best known tea estates in Upper Assam. On his retirement some five or six years ago he devoted a great deal of his time to his favourite hobby of yachting.  He had one or two boats, an sailed regularly during the Cowes week, and last year secured several cups with his yacht, Sunfinder II.

It was for a number of years his custom to winter in the Riviera, but latterly he held an appointment on the Thames as resident secretary and manager of a yacht club.

He had not been in good health for some time, but visited Elgin at Christmas. He contemplated at that time going into a London Hospital for treatment for a stomach trouble.

Mr Jameson is survived by his wife.

The funeral will take place to Elgin Cemetery to-day
