A. Tamplin, Spink, London, 1981) only an estimated 270 +/- EDVII Indian Volunteer Officer's Decorations awarded 1902-1910 (a total of 285 x awards were gazetted & issued 1902-1910, but those awarded in the 1910 total included both EDVII and GV issue medals)

James Tulloch, eldest son of  Jamaica born parents of Scottish descent, Dr. James Tulloch (educated University of Edinburgh) and Margaret Tulloch (nee Walker) was a native of Marylebone, London, England, where he was born in 184. James was baptised at St Mary's, Bryanston Square in April 1843.

Going out to British India as an indigo planter, he appears to have worked his entire career as Manager of the Lehra Indigo Concession. James married Alice Jane Berrill at, Gorakhpur, United Provinces, India, on 12 October 1872, The couple were subsequently blessed with 5 x children, all India born, comprising, 4 x daughters & a son

While living and working in the United Provinces, of British India, James Tulloch was a keen member of his local European Volunteers unit. He was appointed a 2nd Lieutenant in the Gorakhpur Light Horse on 2 August 1890. He was promoted to Lieutenant on 30 September 1892 and to Captain on 4 May 1894. Following an amalgamation of units in 1904, Captain Tulloch served in the Gorakhpur Squadron of the United Provinces Light Horse. At the time of his award of the Indian Volunteer Forces Officers Decoration in 1904, Captain Tulloch was holding the appointment of local Officiating Commandant. He died of cancer on 20 April 1905 and was buried on the estate at Lehra
